Natural Conversations
Works by Rebecca Arthur, Geralyn Inokuchi, and Susan Lehman
September 6–October 25, 2024

Reception: Friday, September 20, 5–8pm

Artists Rebecca Arthur, Geralyn Inokuchi, and Susan Lehman created the work in this exhibit using a unique “call and response” method. One artist creates a piece and the other artists answer that creation in their own medium. The result is a cohesive body of work expressive of the Pacific Northwest landscape.

About the Artists

Rebecca Arthur

Rebecca’s ceramics invoke the power and energy of earth and fire. She creates non-functional hand built and wheel thrown forms which become her canvases. Incorporating seaweed, moss, ferns and other materials found on long walks along the Oregon beaches and in the Coast Range, Rebecca “paints” these forms with fire and smoke to produce unpredictable, almost surreal results.

Rebecca Arthur

Geralyn Inokuchi

Living in the mountains high above Coos Bay, Geralyn’s paintings are inspired by her surrounding environment.  The influence of the panoramic landscapes, textures and the dynamic nature of the Oregon coast are represented in her impressionistic paintings, but more than that, her paintings are expressions of her inner landscape. Through many layers of glazing techniques she achieves a depth in her work that draws the viewer inside the world of her observations.

Geralyn Inokuchi

Susan Lehman

Channeling the energy of our area, Susan Lehman has often worked collaboratively on projects that interpret aspects of Pacific Northwest life. Immersive walks in the constantly moving coastal weather inspire her abstract, highly textured landscapes and seascapes. Thus, Susan Lehman’s explorative acrylic collages are poetic expressions of the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

About SAQA

SAQA is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art quilt and the artists who create them. We are an information resource on all things art quilt related for our members as well as the public. Founded in 1989 by an initial group of 50 artists, SAQA members now number more than 4,000 artists, teachers, collectors, gallery owners, museum curators and corporate sponsors.

SAQA’s Oregon Region has 200+ members. Three local groups meet monthly in Eugene, Portland, and Central Oregon. We have held four regional conferences and have announced our ninth regional exhibit. In 2020 we published the book, Emergence: From Concept to Stitch.

About the Artists

Lynda Hoffman-Snodgrass

I Love to Paint! It is my Voice!
From shared experiences in realism, tributes to spirituality and journeys into abstraction: my artwork is a culmination and a sharing of my life experiences, dreams, inner visions, of all I that am. A third generation Artist I was encouraged to explore and express my creativity at an early age. Predominately, I am a watercolorist; a colorist with a strong emphasis on design.
