Elementary Arts Outreach Classroom Assistant
Help in the classroom by assisting our guest art instructor in various elementary schools around Jackson County. Assist with monthly art instruction and art tours to elementary school children in public school classrooms and on field trips to the Rogue Gallery & Art Center.
The Rogue Gallery & Art Center is looking for another assistant for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Hours: Part-time; during public school hours; average two days a month, from 2-3 hours a day.
Start Date: Starts immediately
Wages: $20 an hour
General Description
The Elementary Arts Outreach Classroom Assistant is part of the Rogue Gallery & Art Center’s outreach team to the public schools. Teachers instruct monthly art lessons to fifth-grade students in Jackson County public schools and assist students in creating artwork. Our Classroom Assistants help where necessary, passing out supplies, and helping individual students as needed in the classroom. The program sessions are taught in school classrooms and at the Rogue Gallery’s studio. Teachers will also lead students on art tours in gallery spaces at the Rogue Gallery, and Classroom Assistants help with the studio project, and/or in the gallery portion of the field trip.
Qualifications
- Experience instructing art to children
- Knowledgeable of various art media
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Enthusiasm for the visual arts
- Friendly and helpful, great with children
- Must pass an Oregon state background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual English/ Spanish
- Experience teaching in elementary schools or working with that age children
- Lift 20 pounds
Duties and Responsibilities
- Aid students as they work with various art media in creating their own artwork
- Assist students in exhibit tours at the Rogue Gallery
- Assist students in art games at the Rogue Gallery
- Communicate art concepts to students
