Youth Classes at Rogue Studio

At the Rogue Gallery & Art Center, we provide quality art education to inspire and build life-long interest in the arts. Our art instructors encourage exploration and creativity. We offer classes in painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, cartooning, and more!

Youth 2024 Summer Classes

Anime, Cartooning & Caricature with Robert Arieas

4 sessions, July 23–26, 1:30–4 pm

Ages 10–16

Explore specific styles and design unique works to the “Anime-Style”. Students will learn to develop characters through figuration and action drawing. This is a great class for Anime fans and for youth wanting to further their drawing skills.

Anime, Cartooning & Caricature Registration

4 sessions, July 30–August 2, 1–4pm

Ages 7–12

This introduction to drawing session helps youth develop drawing skills to strengthen and enhance their artwork. Young artists will learn about composition, shading, and perspective. This is a supportive and encouraging class where students can share if they like about their art.

Stamp Making with Belinda Moffit

4 Sessions, August 6–9, 9am–12pm

Ages 10–18

Stamps are cool! Carving your own stamps is even cooler. During this stamp making summer camp, we’ll design and carve our very own rubber stamps. We’ll also use our stamps to print socks, stickers, bookmarks, t-shirts and more! Perfect for older children who are looking for a creative outlet this summer.

Fashion Design & Illustration with Pravina McClure

4 sessions, August 13–16, 1–4pm

Ages 9–19

A playful introduction to creating a fashion portfolio. Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall… what will your collection look like? Learn how to expand your ideas, apply your creativity, illustrate more effectively, and experiment with a variety of inspirations.

Stop Motion Magic with Greg Grano

4 Sessions, August 13–16, 9am–12pm

Ages 11–18

Discover the magic of animation through stop-motion! In this workshop we’ll build skills to animate paper cutouts, clay, and objects from home and nature–no experience necessary. After establishing the basics, we’ll develop our own stories to make a short animated film. Bring your imagination to life and leave with a brand new film in your portfolio!

Arts and Crafts with Belinda Moffit

4 sessions, August 20–23, 9am–12pm

Ages 7–18

Get ready to create using paint, glue, scissors, all kinds of papers, and more! We’ll be discovering and enjoying a different arts and crafts project each day. Paper mâché, collage, and painting are a few examples of what’s on the ‘menu’ for this week of creative expression.

Family & Friends Art Day

2nd Saturday of the month, 12 pm–2 pm

July 13 and August 10

Come create, explore, and enjoy discovering art at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center the second Saturday of each month. Create interesting art projects in the Rogue Studio and explore our Main, Community, and Members’ Gallery spaces with an art scavenger hunt the whole family will enjoy!  All children must be accompanied by an adult.

ALL AGES WELCOME. ALL MATERIALS PROVIDED. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. NO CHARGE.

Youth Instructors

Robert Arieas holds a Master of Fine Arts in printmaking, drawing, and painting from California State University, Fullerton. He worked at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for eight years. While working there he was exposed to amazing contemporary and classical art. He has taught elementary through high school students for several years. Currently, he works in special education at a local middle school. He has actively been exhibiting his work for over 20 years.

Sherri Beeler During Sherri’s 30 year career in teaching, she has taught in SOU’s Summer Academy Program, and is currently an instructor at Logos Public Charter School. Her work has been published in several magazines including Art Journaling, Create with Me, Stamper’s Sampler, and 400 More Ideas.

Ashley Clasby took art classes at Rogue Gallery as a child, which inspired her to pursue art and education.  Ashley has a Bachelor of Arts in Printmaking and Fiber Arts from the University of Oregon.  She has a teaching credential from Southern Oregon University.  She currently teaches art in Iowa.

 

Linda Dixon began painting while living in Italy in 1992. She has a BFA in studio art from the University of Central Oklahoma.  She has taught many people how to paint for the first time and many more have improved their skills under her instruction.

 

Greg Grano is a filmmaker, writer, and educator based in Ashland. Greg’s process involves firsthand experience with unfamiliar people, places, and natural forces, then sharing and learning through artistic expression. He is writing a book about walking across the US in 2023, from southern California to eastern Maine. Earlier projects include American Bear: An Adventure in the Kindness of Strangers; I’m A Tree and Secrets and Seeds; and Boundaries. Greg holds a BFA in Film and Television from NYU, and an MS in Cultural Foundations of Education from Syracuse University.

Pravina McClure is a creative classical artist.  She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from California College of the Arts, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Southern Oregon University, and a Certificate of Mastery from Ashland Academy of Arts.  She has taught grades K through 12 and college credit courses.

Belinda Moffit is a portrait painter with a passion to capture the essence of each person she paints. She is a self-taught artist primarily using classical techniques learned in the Philippines. Pulling from her own art journey, Belinda will teach both classic drawing techniques as well as some of the tricks she’s learned along the way.

Elementary Arts Outreach Program

The Elementary Arts Outreach Program brings visual arts to 5th grade students by providing access to Rogue Gallery, Rogue Studio, and bringing art instructors to their classrooms for monthly art lessons throughout the school year. Students learn foundational skills in the visual arts, art history and art appreciation. Thanks to the Reed and Carolee Walker Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, Anna May Family Foundation, U.S. Bank Foundation, business sponsorship, and individual donor support. Through their support Rogue Gallery & Art Center is able to offer the Elementary Arts Outreach program.

Field Trips & Tours

Bring your class or group to the Rogue Gallery & Art Center for a memorable experience including hands-on art lessons and interactive art exhibition tours- quality education to inspire and build a life-long interest in the arts.

Enjoy exploring all three galleries and making one of a kind works of art guided by Rogue Gallery & Art Center staff! Field Trip tour programs are offered Tuesday through Friday during gallery hours, 10 am to 5 pm. We can customize your experience to meet the needs of your group or school!
